Tom Vilsack was in Germany last week and letting people know he wants a new job. Problem is, Vilsack -- who happens to hold down the job of governor of Iowa -- has two more years in his current one.
Influential Dem Moines Register Columnist David Yepsen says of Vilsack's flirtation with DNC Chair: "Iowans need our governor here, minding the store, not running about stirring up partisan passions. Just the mere talk of his taking the chairmanship threatens the spirit of good will Vilsack was trying to foster with legislative Republicans after the election." I would feel the same if my governor planned to put his duties on hold to moonlight somewhere else. Both jobs demand his full attention. One is bound to suffer -- and one of the two will have to be sacrificed.
From today's Hotline:
Today's new developments: DNC DC cmte member/Gore '00 manager Donna Brazile is getting the word out that she will NOT be a candidate. Meanwhile, ex-NH Gov./Kerry '04 chair Jeanne Shaheen is making calls and testing the waters for a runThe problem with Shaheen is that it will be the same people at the top running the party. We need some change.
Shaheen will not bring much change to the party and will keep us going in the smae direction we have been in terms of message and organization for the past four years. Shaheen will also protect the intrests of Kerry and the people who many of us have disagreed with over the years. This is a fight for the soul of the democratic party ... we arte moderates, our values can be sold and our volunteer army can be built.
Rosenberg seems to have his own issues.
When I look at the list I only see one moderate who can raise money and and bring change to the party. I am not deaniac, but Howard Dean is my personal pick.

We need a leader who speaks plainly and passionately.
We need a leader who we can trust to stand up for mainstream Democratic values and never let anyone define or malign us.
Most of all, we need a leader who understands the challenges we face as a country and as a party.
Governor Howard Dean is that leader.
